Take A Short Trip To Busse Woods

Although spring officially started over a month ago, the outdoors are finally catching up! So if you want to enjoy some time in nature, Busse Woods, officially named Ned Brown Preserve, is a gorgeous piece of nature just minutes away from Hancock Square at Arlington Station.

If you’re looking to spend all or part of your day basking the great outdoors, Busse Woods is definitely the place to do it! You can experience the sights of beautiful birds and majestic elk while fishing, having a picnic, and more.

The area spans over 3500 acres, including the 460-acre lake.

Can Visitors Enjoy The Lake?

The Busse Lake is open all year round for fishing. It has over 20 miles of shoreline and is stocked with channel catfish, largemouth bass, and brown bullhead.

But you’re not restricted simply standing along the shoreline to do your fishing. You’re also welcome to bring your sailboat, rowboat, kayak, or canoe.

However, to preserve the lake for many more years to come, they do not allow gas-powered outdoor outboard motors. The Boating Center also has canoes and rowboats for hourly rentals.

What Else Is There To Do?

Some of the activities visitors can enjoy on the meadow are picnicking, model airplane flying, or just relaxing with friends. The woods consist of magnificent maple, ironwood, oak, and elm trees.

Of course, all of these awesome trees are a welcoming sight for birds. Some of the ones you might see include the snowy egret, little blue heron, American white pelican, and the beautiful bald eagle.

Other attractions are the 17-acre elk enclosure and the eight-mile paved loop trail. The trail is open for walking, biking, and rollerblading.

Visit their website for more information about the Nature Center, scheduled events, and everything else there is to discover at Busse Woods.
